Our CCTV Drain Survey's found tree root damage in historic home in Weybridge

Case Study: Weybridge Historic Home CCTV Drain Survey

Client Background

A client called us regarding a CCTV drain survey at her seven-bedroom house on the prestigious St George’s Hill estate in Weybridge. The Dame’s home is high-value and of great importance as it was built in the 1800s. Since the property is of high value and has been built for more than a century, Elizabeth wanted to check if the drains are working well to avoid any issue in the future.

Older properties are quite likely to face issues with drainage. This is mainly because the drainage system is old and over a period of time develops a lot of wear and tear. Moreover, the pipes may also get corroded and there are bound to be cracks that will not be visible from above. Older drainage pipes – such as those made from clay and cast iron – are subject to corrosion and damage from outside forces. Prevent issues from getting worse with a regular CCTV drain survey.

What we did

An engineer came to Elizabeth’s house and carried out a preliminary examination. This helped us locate the manhole and any problem areas. Because the pipes had a standard size of 225mm, we were able to set up the camera on a crawler. This allows our engineers to wheel the camera.

Findings

We found that roots from a tree next to the property had made their way into the municipal sewer main and broken it during the CCTV drain survey. The tree roots broke into the sewer main causing disruption to the drain runs of the .

After showing our report to Elizabeth, we got started on replacing the municipal sewer main. Because we used trenchless technology to replace the sewer line, Elizabeth’s garden had no digging and there was no disruption any further. The plant was unaffected by the trimming of tree roots. The leftover roots were taken out of the pipes.

Client Feedback

Elizabeth was relieved and grateful for our thorough and professional service. She appreciated the detail of our report and the efficiency with which we resolved the tree root issue.

Fixing drain troubles in historical buildings can be problematic, expensive, and detrimental to old infrastructure. A CCTV drain survey is undertaken on a regular basis to pick upon problems before they endanger your property.
