Client Background
We were recently contacted by a client from Chertsey, Matt, who was in the final stages of purchasing a ground-floor apartment. His previous rental property in London had been problematic due to a severe drainage issue caused by nappies and food fat from tenants above blocking the pipes. This resulted in significant repair costs. Determined to avoid a similar situation in his new home, Matt decided to commission a CCTV drain survey to ensure the drainage system was in good condition before finalising his purchase.
What we did
To provide Matt with peace of mind and evidence of a functioning drainage system, we used our state-of-the-art CCTV equipment to conduct a thorough inspection of the property’s drains.
We began with an initial assessment that allowed us to find the best approach for the survey. Our camera was then placed into the drain where it could be controlled by our engineers using the CCTV unit. This unit also allowed the engineer to watch the camera’s progression through the drains via a live video feed to spot any blockages or structural damages. This video footage would then be collated into a full written report for the client.
Findings
During the CCTV drain survey, we discovered a small blockage within the drainage system. This blockage was caused by flushed nappies and wet wipes, which is a common issue in apartment buildings due to shared drainage systems. Although the blockage was not severe at the time, it had the potential to worsen and cause significant problems in the future. We promptly informed Matt of the issues and recommended immediate action to prevent the blockage from escalating. Thanks to our CCTV drain survey, the problem was addressed before completing the purchase, ensuring there would be no sudden issues.
Client Feedback
“Our CCTV drain survey provided Matt with the confidence to proceed with his apartment purchase, knowing that he was not walking into a potential drainage disaster. He was pleased with our thorough reporting and our engineer’s efficiency.”
