CCTV Drain surveys can help identify future drainage problems

Case Study: CCTV Drain Survey for Ground Floor Apartment, Chertsey

Client Background

A client of ours based in Chertsey ‘‘Matt’’ reached out to us recently, he was in the process of buying a ground floor flat. Matt previously rented a property in London but had lost confidence in it because the drain had been blocked by nappies and food fat from the tenants above. This resulted in significant repair costs. Matt was keen to avoid a repeat of the above, so he decided to get a CCTV drain survey, to ensure the drain was ok.

What we did

We used our impressive on-board CCTV equipment to conduct a comprehensive inspection of the property’s drains in order to give Matt peace of mind that everything is functioning correctly.

We started with an initial evaluation to determine the best way to go about the survey. The drain was then fitted with the camera where it was able to be controlled by our engineers with CCTV unit. The engineer used this device to monitor the camera’s movement inside the drains in real time in order to see any blockages or structural damages. The recorded video will be assembled into a report and sent to you later.

Findings

CCTV drain survey revealed small blockage in the drainage. Apartment blocks often have shared drainage systems which are susceptible to common blockages, including those caused by flushed nappies and wet wipes. The blockage wasn’t too bad, but it could get worse and then cause problems further down the line. We let Matt know straight away about the issue and why he needs to act fast to unblock it. We highlighted the problem to Matt before the deal was completed (because the blockage was not too bad at that time).

Client Feedback

Our drain survey gave Matt the assurance that buying the apartment would not bring him into a blockage disaster. Our extensive report and our engineer’s helpfulness pleased him.
