Case Study: CCTV DRain Survey for Industrial Warehouse In Staines

CCTV Drain Survey helping to avoid flooding at an Industrial Warehouse In Staines

A short while back, we were called to carry out a CCTV drainage survey at an industrial warehouse in Staines. The survey helped to avoid major flooding and costly damage.

A large distribution warehouse located in an industrial park just outside of Staines town centre. Managed by David Harris, the warehouse handled a constant flow of shipments, with delivery trucks coming and going throughout the day. The warehouse was crucial for several local businesses, which relied on it to store and distribute their goods.

For the most part, operations ran smoothly, but during the rainy months, David started to notice a concerning problem: water was pooling around the loading docks and in the parking area after heavy rain. The issue wasn’t new; the warehouse had experienced minor flooding in previous years, but with increasingly unpredictable weather, the problem seemed to be getting worse. The last thing David needed was to have standing water disrupt deliveries or, worse, cause damage to the warehouse’s foundations or stock.

Initially, David attempted a few DIY fixes. The maintenance team cleared the gutters and external drains, hoping that removing surface debris would allow the water to drain more effectively. However, even after the basic maintenance, water still pooled during heavy downpours. Knowing that this could pose a serious risk to the business if left unchecked, David decided it was time to seek professional help.

After searching on Google for a local Surrey drainage company, David came across Your Drain Experts. He decided to call us in for a comprehensive CCTV drain survey at the Surrey site, hoping to get to the bottom of the recurring flooding issue once and for all.

We responded quickly, and within two days, a team was dispatched to the location warehouse. They arrived with specialised CCTV equipment designed to thoroughly inspect the drainage system without the need for excavation. David was eager to see what the problem might be, and he was relieved when the technicians assured him that the survey would cause no disruption to the warehouse’s daily operations.

The CCTV drain survey began by inspecting the external drains around the warehouse, focusing on the loading docks and parking areas where the flooding was most severe. As the cameras navigated the underground system, it became clear that there were deeper issues beyond just surface-level blockages. The footage revealed that while the drains were mostly clear of large obstructions, there was a significant buildup of silt, mud, and debris within the drainage pipes themselves. Over time, this sediment had accumulated to the point where the drains could no longer handle large volumes of rainwater, especially during heavy storms.

David watched as our technicians pointed out several problem areas on the camera footage. In one section, the drain was nearly three-quarters filled with silt, which was drastically reducing its capacity to channel water away from the loading area. Further along the system, the technicians also found a few sections of pipe that had minor cracks, likely caused by shifting soil or the weight of the heavy trucks driving over the area.

After completing the survey, our technicians explained the findings to David. The primary issue was the buildup of silt, which was significantly reducing the flow of water through the system. Additionally, the minor cracks in the pipes would need to be repaired to prevent future leaks or further damage. The technician recommended two key steps: first, to clear the silt buildup through high-pressure water jetting, and second, to repair the cracks through a relining process, which could be done without the need for excavation.

David agreed to proceed with the recommended course of action. Over the following few days, our drain engineers returned to the warehouse to carry out the necessary work. Using high-pressure jetting, they successfully cleared out the silt and debris from the drainage pipes, restoring their full capacity. The relining process was also completed swiftly, with no disruption to the warehouse’s operations.

The results were immediate. In the weeks following the work, Staines experienced several heavy rainfalls, but this time, the warehouse’s drainage system handled the water with ease. There were no more pools of water in the parking lot or around the loading docks, and David no longer had to worry about the risk of flooding or delays to the warehouse’s operations.

Reflecting on the experience, David said, “We’d been dealing with minor flooding for years, but I never realised how bad the underlying problem was until Your Drain Experts carried out the CCTV drain survey. Their team was incredibly professional and explained everything to me clearly. Thanks to them, our drainage system is working better than ever, and I don’t have to worry about disruptions during heavy rains. I’d highly recommend their services to any business with similar issues.”
