CCTV Drain Survey to Diagnose Bad Odours at a Medical Clinic, Weybridge.
A successful private healthcare facility in Surrey asked us to see if we could discover the source of some foul odours coming from their drainage. To find out what was wrong, we did a CCTV drain survey at the Weybridge clinic.
For Sarah Thompson, the manager of the clinic, it was important to keep everything clean. However, a strong bad smell had been coming from the clinic’s main reception area in recent months.
Initially, she assumed that something from the kitchen or nearby was causing the unpleasant smell, but when it did not go away even after a few weeks and patients started complaining, things got troubling. After Sarah brought in a cleaning team to deep clean the whole building, including kitchen, bathrooms and common areas, the smell continued.
The clinic’s reputation was on the line. Sarah didn’t want a situation where patients would think the clinic was dirty so she got her onsite maintenance team to check the drains. They assumed that a blockage, dead rats, or some other buildup in the drains was causing the smell so they tried chemical drain cleaners, which didn’t work. The smell always came and went, sometimes light and other times strong. That’s when our client realized she needed professional help.
After searching for local drainage specialist Sarah came across Your Drain Experts because we have a great reputation in the area for resolving drainage issues with advanced technology like a CCTV drain survey. Sarah called us in because she had an urgent drainage situation on her hands.
The next day, we sent a technician to the clinic with all the necessary equipment for the CCTV drain survey. The team’s professionalism reassured her of their thorough and expert service. They made it crystal clear how the CCTV cameras would allow an inspection from the inside of the clinic’s drainage. This method was essential because Sarah would not allow any work to take place while there were patients in the clinic.
The technician pushed the camera into the drains from the nearest access point. He then took time to investigate the entire network. As the camera moved through the pipes, Sarah watched the live footage of it. It didn’t take long for the issue to reveal itself. The camera found a huge crack in one of the underground drainage pipes about 10 metres into the system. The crack allowed waste water into the soil that had accumulated over time. This accumulation was rotting which was causing the smell at the clinic.
Delivery pressure from the pumping station monitoring chamber was ruling out backflow blockage. The water falling in Roger was still flowing up the system. The topsoil layers were blocked, causing dought heating behind Roger’s blockage. A technician examined the ground and sought to explain the detail to clinicians about water getting channeled into the underground drain pipe and the ground was tense. As the soil became more and more wet with wastewater, it gives off some rotten smell and on warm days, the smell gets stronger in the clinic.
After diagnosing the problem, Sarah was given a few solutions by the technician. The best way to fix this would be to replace the damaged pipe section. Excavation would be needed for this solution, but Your Drain Experts assured Sarah that the damage would be minimal and work done quickly. Drain relining was another option which would eliminate further leaks and strengthen the built-up system.
After considering the options, Sarah decided to go for the pipe replacement. We carried out the job over a weekend when the clinic was closed, ensuring their daily operations were not affected at all. After doing the excavation, they replaced the damaged pipe and carried out another CCTV drain survey to ensure the rest of the drainage system was good. The work was finished in 2 days and the clinic was back to normal.
The results were immediate. The bad smell in the reception area of the clinic which was there for month was gone. Sarah could focus on other priorities now. Patients remarked on how fresh and clean the clinic felt. Sarah also no longer feared the effect on the clinic’s image.
Thinking back, Sarah says, “I can’t thank Your Drain Experts enough for coming at short notice and doing such a professional job. The video footage from the CCTV drain survey showed the extent of the problem, which I was not aware of. Sarah added, “The Your Drain Experts team took care to do the repair work without disrupting the clinic, and the smell is now fully gone.” I suggest you hire them for any of your drainage problems.
